Starting the day with a dose of French….
Habits are important when we are trying to discipline ourselves to incorporate something new into our lives. I truly believe that learning a foreign language is a life-long journey that should be considered an adventure.
If you live in the country of the language that you are learning like myself then you can learn all day long. But you have to set your brain up to do this as soon as you rise from your bed.
Here are a few suggestions…
Put the radio on!
Create some affirmations in your target language!
Do some yoga or stretching in the target language!
Put the TV on in the local language!
If you have a pet and you greet them and feed them, talk to them in the target language!
When you are driving your car, listen to the local radio for a few minutes before putting your music on or audio book in English!
Stop for a morning coffee in your local café or bar and tune in to the locals putting the world to rights!
Go and buy some fresh bread and croissants and have a quick chat with the vendor.
All of the above does not involve long conversation and will set you up for learning all throughout the day. You’ll be amazed at just how better attuned you are to noticing the language. Be it listening to it, reading it and even when you speak! Your brain has had the chance to warm up and is then raring to go!
Va va voom!
